 CLASSIFICATION OF MAGNETIC MATERIALS

ACCORDING TO MICHELE FARADAY, MAGNETIC MATERIALS ARE BASICALLY OF 3 TYPES AND THEIR PROPERTIES ARE DIFFERENT IN EXTERNAL MAGNETIC FIELDS.

THE THREE DIFFERENT TYPES OF MAGNETIC MATERIAS ARE:-

1. DIAMAGNETIC 

2. PARAMAGNETIC

3. FERROMAGNETIC

PARAMAGNETIC SUBSTANCE


THESE ARE THE SUBSTANCES IN WHICH THE INDIVIDUAL MAGNETIC MOMENT IS PRESENT BUT DUE TO THEIR RANDOMNESS, THE NET MAGNETIC DIPOLE MOVEMENT IS ABSENT.

PROPERTIES OF PARAMAGNETIC


1. THEY OBEY CURIE LAW IN MAGNETISM.

2. MAGNETIC LINE PASSES THROUGH THEM.

3. IN U TYPE THEY RISE TOWARD THE MAGNETIC FIELD, LIMB.

4. IN U TYPE THEY RISE TOWARD THE MAGNETIC FIELD, LIMB.  PARAMAGNETIC SUBSTANCE SHOW ELEVATION AT CENTRE OF BEAKER OVER TWO MAGNET.

5. THEY ALIGNED PERPENDICULAR INSIDE THE EXTERNAL MAGNETIC FIELD DUE TO POLES.

6. THEY ARE ATTACHED TO THE MAGNETIC FIELD. [THEY MOVE FROM WEAK TO STRONG FIELD]

7.IN U TYPE THEY RISE TOWARD THE MAGNETIC FIELD, LIMB.  PARAMAGNETIC SUBSTANCE SHOW ELEVATION AT CENTRE OF BEAKER OVER TWO MAGNET.

DIAMAGNETIC SUBSTANCE

                                

THESE ARE THE SUBSTANCE IN WHICH THE INDIVIDUAL MAGNETIC DIPOLE MOVEMENT OF THE MOLECULE IS ZERO.

THE NET MAGNETIC DIPOLE MOVEMENT = 0

PROPERTIES OF DIAMAGNETIC

                                    

1. THEY ARE ALWAYS REPLIED BY THE MAGNETIC FIELD, THEY ALWAYS MOVE FROM A STRONG FIELD TO A WEAK FIELD.

2. THEY ALWAYS ALLIED PARALLEL INSIDE MAGNETIC FIELD DUE TO POLES.

3. DIAMAGNETIC SUBSTANCE SHOWS DEPRESSION AT THE CENTRE OF THE BEAKER.

4. WHEN PLACED IN A NON-UNIFORM MAGNETIC FIELD, THE BAR WILL TEND TO MOVE FROM HIGH TO LOW FIELD.

FERROMAGNETIC SUBSTANCES

THEY ARE THE SUBSTANCE IN WHICH THE INDIVIDUAL MAGNETIC DIPOLE MOVEMENT, AS WELL AS NET DIPOLE MOVEMENT, IS PRESENT.

PROPERTIES OF FERROMAGNETIC


1. FERROMAGNETIC MATERIAL THE FIELD LINES ARE HIGHLY CONCENTRATED.

2. IN FERROMAGNETIC MATERIAL, THE MAGNETISM DISAPPEARS ON REMOVAL OF THE EXTERNAL FIELD.

3. IT DEPENDS ON THE TEMPERATURE.

4. AT HIGH TEMPERATURE, FERROMAGNET BECOME A PERMANENT MAGNET.
